Country Serenade

First, let me say up front that I am not a big fan of country western music. There are many genres I prefer to the yee-haw, guitar strumming, cowboy hat wearing, yodeling, Slim Pickins’ type of crooner—or in many cases, groaner or moaner. The typical lyrics narrating tales of broken hearts, jilted lovers, cheatin’ no-good polecats, and unfaithful females just don’t move my potentially achy-breaky heart.

This is not to say it’s necessarily bad music. It’s just that I don’t really have an ear for it. I actually think I’d rather spend an afternoon in the dentist’s chair (an experience of which I am definitely not fond) than say, have to sit through the Country Music Awards. Again, I’m not saying these performers lack talent; I’m sure it’s probably a flaw in my character that the Grand Ole Opry is not my favorite tv show.

That being said, I have to admit that the video below touched me deeply. I caught myself singing along with the catchy refrain; and the message was so relevant, I couldn’t believe my ears. Many lyricists pen words declaring deep love, but few are able to match the feeling in the song this man sings. Don’t be fooled by his casual litany of country song titles at the beginning; he sings a serious tale of love. You may want to watch this with your significant other.

The runny nose bit killed me!!

BTW when I click on the My Webpage link on your profile, it doesn't bring me here. It takes me to some Ace page. Maybe there's a glitch?

I haven't been able to hear the song, as the video freezes when he begins strumming, but I do love the songs he mentions prior to that! Although he forgot Never Hit Your Grandma With a Great Big Stick and Dance Til Your Stockings are Hot and Raveling.
I'm not a country music fan, either, and boy, do I sure live in the wrong place - right outside of Nashville! My first serious boyfriend here was a house musician at the Opry and toured with some of country's biggest names. My husband is a guitar player and has been in many rinky-dink country bands. He subjects me to the Opry on radio every Saturday night. My sister was the cook for a very famous country star and my mother had dinner many nights at Johnny Cash's table. I've been to funerals attended by all the country elite; I've shaken hands with Marty Stuart, hugged Emmylou Harris, and sat beside Vince Gill. And my music of choice? NOT COUNTRY. Give me some old Beatles, Monkees, and Rodgers and Hammerstein any old day!
