A Collection that Doesn't Forget!

My sister collects Elephants.  Not live ones--they'd take up too much space, and then there's the whole elephant poop thing.  Who needs to deal with that?

Some people would be content with a nice painting like the one she has on her living room wall.

Or maybe this group of brass ones would make them content.  But not my sister.  She LOVES elephants in a big way!

Her late husband built her a shelf for them.

And when that was filled, he built a beautiful cabinet of glass and mirrors for her.

Here's a close up look of the contents of the cabinet.

There's the first shelf....
The second shelf....
The third shelf....
And the fourth shelf!  (ignore my camera reflected in the mirror as I took the photo)

Soon, the cabinet was filled, and these two guys were relegated to the top"

And this guy just sits on the living room rug!  They are beautiful!  And I didn't get them all....a half or dozen or so had made their way out onto the window sills on her glassed in sunporch and I couldn't get a good shot of those!  But you get the idea!  The girl loves elephants!

Wow, quite a herd. There must be a need in all of us to surround ourselves with totem items.

But does she decorate them for the holidays? Now that would be a project. Little santa hats for all!

Me thinks she may need to get a life (just kidding)...or...maybe you need to nominate her to be on that Hoarder's Show...do they have one for "over collectors"?
As long as they make her happy and she doesn't mind spending so much time dusting around them,no harm done, right? At least people know what to get her for a gift. :0}

I think we need to get your sister into a 12-step program.

I was once told that statues of elephants should always have their trunks in the air because it was good luck.

Maybe you just want to sneak in their and weed out the ones that don't for good measure.

I knew someone else who collected elephants, but your sister outdid her by a lot. There are some really nice ones in there, but I just LOVE the big brass guy on the rug. Very cool.

My MOM also collects elephants! Although, I admit, she doesn't have the amazing collection your sister does! Just awesome!

Mom also told me that an elephant statue with the trunk "up" is good luck. Did you ever hear that?

That is quite a collection however being a recovering collector for years, the bad thing is that after a while you just want empty space. Besides, who wants to dust all that stuff?

OMG! I hope she never has to move! (But then she has a sister to help her!)

Elephants, I think, are one of the few (the only?) animals that recognize themself in a mirror. That is, when they see a mirror, they know it's them and not another elephant checking them out. (And I could be wrong about this... one of my kids told me about it the other day.)

That is an incredible collection. I hear that elephants have a positive energy. Is that why your sister likes them?

I also have a bloggy friend that likes owls.

I was also thinking I remembered elephants as bringing good luck - if so, she's all set!
