Sundays in My Neck of the Woods

They call it "Mud Running,"  and it's not exactly good, clean fun.  My son Jason, who owns the internet business and store in Auburn, Maine, called "4x4GroupBuy.com,"  phoned me and said, "Mom, how would you like to come watch me compete in a Mud Run?"  What mother could resist such an invitation...surely not I!  So we packed up our folding canvas chairs and drove to a place called The Barnyard, in Livermore, Maine to watch the mud running competition.

I believe I posted once before about my son and his online business.  Well now, he also has a  retail retail store in Auburn, Maine:
This is the front of the store, with his jeep outside for attention-grabbing purposes!
Then, of course, his truck serves as advertising as well!
His showroom has all sorts of parts, tires, and accessories for 4 wheel drive vehicles.
So as part of his net-working, he attends things like Mud Runs with his lovely jeep...it doesn't stay looking that way long....you'll see why, below!
What's a Mud Run you ask?  Well, as near as I can tell, it's an event where men get to be boys again and drive their vehicles (trucks, jeeps, you name it!) through mud and see if they can avoid getting stuck!
Here's one of Jason's attempts below.  He placed third in his class (that's not a school class, but a vehicle class based on engine and tire size, etc.).
There were lots of entries, of all shapes and sizes!
And a few disasters!
Yes..the engine caught fire on this guy's jeep!  I wish I were better at video with my camera!  The black smoke and flames were pouring out! And at the end of the day, this is how Jason's Jeep looked:
And the big take home trophy?
It sure was a different way to spend the day.  Everyone seemed to be having fun, except maybe the guy whose engine caught fire!  Actually, several vehicles became disabled and had to be towed off the track, but I guess that goes with the territory when you're getting down and dirty in Maine!

Wow, I must admit, that looks like fun! Good thing the participants all own those big jeeps, that way they can effectively lug that ENORMOUS trophy home!!! LOL!!

Your son would have laughed at us last night. We were going to an outdoor event. It had rained earlier in the day and the road in was muddy. I was so afraid we would not be able to get out again.
The muddy stretch was about 20 feet long but I was so nervous.

I can see how much fun this would be for young folks. Cute, little trophy, to keep the boys in their places after driving these monster engines.

Steven: His jeep is something, that's for sure. Plus he has that big truck he uses to haul it around to shows and mud runs. He is also starting a new online business dealing will parts and accessories for ATVs as well. He'll be carrying some of that stuff in his store, too. He has a huge ATV as well. He's definitely a wheeler and dealer! (Can you tell I'm proud? He's supporting his family very comfortably, and for that I am grateful!)

Kitty: this "boy" is 37 next Sunday, and is married and has 4 kids!

Millenium: Can be done with the right equipment and plenty of water I guess! lol

Everyday: I can understand that! I once got stuck in the mud on a back road...not fun. Had to call the Automobile service to pull me out!

Jen: that it was!

Java: I think I've already joined!

Well, that is a very interesting sport. I can see how people like it though. I think it's so cool that you son is passionate about his business.
