Celebrating the Down Side of the Hill

Well, it's official.  I am 66 years old today.  One more six and I'd be a candidate for exorcism!  I have reached the hilltop and started down the other side!  And the pace looks to be much faster going down than it was climbimg up!  (Feel free to send gifts, especially chocolate!)

To celebrate this auspicious occasion, my family decided to hold a get together at Ken's Family Restaurant in Skowhegan, Maine.  It was held about 10 days early, so it didn't occur to me that this had anything to do with my birthday.  I have 5 surviving siblings, all older than I am--no wonder they wanted to celebrate me joining them on the downhill slope of the hill! I have 4 brothers and a sister ranging in age from 70 to 80; yes, I'm the baby of the family.  I maintain that my parents saved the best for last!  (That was BEST not BEAST!)

On the left, my big brother Art; on the right, my older sister Jen.

The whole crew, minus one! From Left to right around the table my brother Richard, me, the birthday girl, my Hubby Joe, my sister-in-law Noells, my sister-in-law Jackie, my brother Art, my sister Jen, my sister-in-law Rita, and my brother Bob.  (my brother Larry got cut out by the camera!)

Because I really don't care for regular cake, my thoughtful sister Jen made what we call an icebox cake or graham cracker cake.  It is chocolate flavored real whipped cream layered with graham crackers.  It's best when made a day early and allowed to sit in the refrigerator overnight, which is what she did.  Mercifully, there were only 9 candles on the cake.  The restaurants fire code may have probibited putting on the full number to represent my age!

That was my piece before I gobbled it up.  It was a delicious cake and a fun get together.  Thanks to my family for going out of their way to do this for  me.  It was a surprise.  When they started to sing "Happy Birthday", I was looking around, trying to figure out whose birthday it was!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have such a beautiful family!!!! How wonderful that your siblings were all there to share it with you! The cake was so thoughtful too and looked delish! My family knows I am not big into cake but apparently, my birthday is about them so...I get regular cake. I have been telling my mother-in-law to make me an apple pie and the rest can have cake. Hey..MY day, right? Anyway, congrats on another year and may God bless your beautiful family!!

Yes, Eva, happy happy birthday! I remember my 66th, I felt the same way, hoping it wouldn't be unlucky, but I was very happy to leave it behind and turn 67, which is a much nicer sounding number. However, 66 turned out to be a great year for me, I hope it is for you, too! And thanks for the pictures of your family, that is fun!!

Happy Birthday! And remember - the 60's are the new 40's, or something like that! Or - you're as old as you feel! (And some days I feel pretty damn old!) LOL!

What a co-inky-dink! Today is my son's birthday! He is 31! That's hard to believe when I'm a mere 39! (wink, wink!)

Have a wonderful day - may people wait on you hand and foot, may you have control of the remote all day, and eat whatever you want, you know, feel what's it's like to be a man for a day! LOL!

Happy Birthday Eva! Wishing you 66 more!
It's great you were able to gather with your beautiful family to celebrate-- especially with that amazing cake! You'll have to post sometime what it was like being the youngest in your family. I'm guessing you have some great stories.

Have a wonderful day and a great weekend birthday girl!

Happy birthday missy! And damn you for beating me to the 666 joke. Hope you have cake up the wazoo.

Or preferably in your belly...

Eva Gallant said...

Veg: Thank you! And birthday cake up the wazoo sounds a little kinky. Is that a Canadian thing or did it originate in Scotland?

Glad to see that you are celebrating the downside of the hill, because after all, isn't the ride down the rollercoaster hill so much more exciting that the way up??? Happy SITS Saturday!!
