Recycle Your Bras

If you've been lurking around these parts for a while, then you know I like to post information about unique worthy causes.  Well this one is directed at the ladies (and any cross-dressing guys who may be reading today.).

How many times have you purchased a bra you just loved the looks of in the store, got it home, and it just didn't fit right, so you threw it in your lingerie draw anyway?  Or maybe you lost some weight or gained some weight, and you have some bras that just don't fit your taataas like they once did?

Or perhaps that grape-colored bra that you bought just to wear under one particular dress, and the dress got ruined, and you never wore that bra again?  Or nursing bras you no longer need?

There's an organization called Bosom Buddies (I know, I love that choice for their name too!) that will take gently worn bras and recycle them, distributing them to women in need at homeless shelters, halfway houses, cancer survivors, or women transitioning from domestic violence.  (Often a women escaping an abusive situation will leave with just the clothes on her back; no time to pack!)

All they ask is that the bras be in good condition with functional straps and hooks, that you wash them, and if they are new, leave the tags on them.  Place the bras in a box or enevelope and mail them with a Bra Recycling Form to 3317 S. Higley Rd, Ste 114-441, Gilbert, AZ 85297.

Bosom Buddies works with various women's shelters around the country.  Any bras that are not needed here  are shipped to developing nations.

So check your closets and lingerie draws and see what you have that might be recycled.  It's a worthy cause and your donation will be uplifting to someone, I'm sure.

Thats an awesome cause;)

I don't wear bras, obviously...but I do have a preference...I love the ones that clasp in the front, they rev my engine;) My question to all the ladies, is there a big difference in comfort for you all in the front and back clasps?

just wondering

i have so many of these bras that i totally need to send to this cause. clear out some space & pick another lady up.
david, for me i think the front clasps aren't as good because you can't adjust the band size. there's only one hooking option, but when it closes in the back, you have 3 different size options to choose from.

This is a great idea! I'll have to keep this address handy. Never know when I might want to get rid of some still-good bras. :) thanks.

This is a great organization. Thanks Eva for bringing this to our attention.

(And sorry David. But to me, you came across as a bit of a perv throwing the "rev my engine" comment into the midst of this rather serious post. I very much doubt that you're concerned with my breast comfort!) This post is about women helping other women -- something we take very seriously!

Unfortunately I wear mine until they can no longer hold up anything. I would have used this long ago when I would buy them for special occasions. Great information, Eva, I hope the organization receives lots of donations!

Good one, Eva.....Helping us women recycle and helping a great cause too. This is a piece of "clothing" that is never mentioned when donations are being collected. Thanks again.

What a great cause. I hadn't heard of it before. Of course, I wear my bras to shreds, but I will pass the link around. Thanks for posting this.

Yes, that's better than just throwing them out!

qawsedee556: Thanks.

Jen: Thanks, Sis.

Jayne: I'm the same as you. By the time I part with a bra, the lace is disintegrating and the elasticity has died!

Great info, Eva!

What I want to know though, is how did you know I owned a grape bra?

What a terrific cause. It's sad that I had to come to your blog to figure out why there was a box of bras in the lounge at my faculty! I guess it's time to go bra shopping.

Great cause and I will send them some. I have lost weight and have a few I have never worn. :)

This is a great cause. Unfortunately, I'm very hard on my bras. My bras are so expensive (these ta-tas are BIG) that I only can afford one or two at a time. I wear them till they fall apart!

Visiting from BPOTW! Great cause. I usually donate all our gently used clothing to a charitable organization that serves the poor, but I think I like this idea for the bras. I'll keep the address for the next time I'm ready to make a donation.

What a great cause! I wish I could help but I have like 3 bras that I wear to death...maybe I should be on the receiving end of this actually.

Jayne: I had never heard of it before either, but I'm glad I did a post about it, because it's been received well by my readers!

Jules: I'm with you....I have four that are disintegrating as I type!
