Sundays in My Neck of the Woods

Famous Dave's is a chain of restaurants with locations in 37 states and a menu specializing in BBQ.  You may recall a review I did of another BBQ place a couple of weeks ago which left us disappointed.  Not so with this visit!

The chain's mascot Wilbur is a large, pink pig!  Sporting his white apron, he often can be seen greeting customers and escorting them into the friendly dining room.

I didn't get a photo of the Scarborough restaurant's dining room.  I borrowed this one from Famous Dave's website.  Having been to two or three in the chain, I can vouch for the fact that they all look pretty similar;  wooden chairs, tables covered in red and white checkered table cloths, and a roll of paper towels on each table, to help clean up what you can't lick off.  (And, believe me, you'll want to lick that yummy sauce off your fingers!  It's too good to let any of it go to waste.)

As soon as you open the door to the restaurant, the enticing aroma of BBQ grabs you, and there's no way you can think of leaving until you've chowed down on some of that good stuff!

There are so many choices on the menu, it's really difficult to decide what you want to order.  It's definitely a great reason for repeat visits; you can try something different each time!  Hubby settled on the Beef Brisket Dinner with sides of baked beans and coleslaw.  Corn on the cob and a cornbread muffin accompany each of the dinner choices.  The beans were flavored with jalepeno peppers, beef brisket, and hot sausage--a treat for the taste buds!  The coleslaw was creamy with pineapple and a hint of horseradish, and the corn muffin was fresh and warm from the oven.

My son opted for the pulled BBQ chicken sandwich, which had lots of tasty chicken on a large fresh bun, and a side of crispy french fries.  (I stole one of his fries, and it was delicious:  cripy on the outside and soft on the inside,)

My selection was Dave's Sassy BBQ Salad.  I had the choice of pulled chicken, beef brisket, or chopped Georgia pork on top of my salad.   I went with the pork, because I had read on the menu that the pork was "juicier than a Gerogia peach."  (Not a lie, by the way.)  The tasty pork came on lettuce, tomatoes, schreded cheddar cheese, shoestring potatoes, and smoked bacon, all tossed with Dave's homemade honey-BBQ dressing.  It was a huge serving, more than I could finish, even though I was really hungry.  And of course it came with one of those marvelous muffins....so fresh, moist, and warm.

Sadly, there was no room after all that for dessert.  I wish I'd had the forethought to request a piece of their "better than Mom's" pecan pie to take home.  Oh, well, maybe next visit; I'm sure there will be many more!

If you haven't drooled enough already, you may want to check out their website.  Click here to feast your eyes on some more fabulous BBQ, to peruse the menu,  and to find a location near you.

Note:  I received no compensation for this review; the opinions are strictly my own.

John and I went to a Famous Dave's in Northeast Philadelphia a few months ago, and I was rather disappointed. I like ribs that are fall-off-the-bone good. These were definitely not. Give me TGI Fridays ribs any day!

Glad you enjoyed yours though!

I love BBQ. We have a few Sonny's BBQ locations here in Jacksonville and I really like them, but if I get to Tallahassee or Pensacola, I'll try Famous Daves.

I adore anything BBQ. I hadn't hear of this chain so I'm guessing it is not here in California? I'd love to get a job dressed as their pink pig. :) He's adorable.

While not a BBQ fan, your photos look delicious. It's always great to pig out on a meal you love.

Looks scrumptious. It looks like one of those places where I would get bummed because I would get full too soon even though my taste buds want more.

We've eaten at this restaurant chain several times and I can honestly say that we've never seen that dressed up pig - but we've eaten a lot of them! LOL!

I've never seen that salad on the menu, either, but I either have eaten the ribs, chicken, or pulled pork sandwich.

YUM! And the cole slaw with a pineapple and horseradish peeked my interest. I'm going to try to make that at home.

Have a great week Eva. jj
