Giving Thought to New Year's Resolutions

Yep, it's that time of year again; time to give thought to whether it's worth making resolutions for the New Year.   I've made them in the past and haven't done real well carrying them out.

Last year, I believe I resolved to lose weight; I am down 11 pounds from last year, so I guess that's some progress, but not much to get excited about.  At my size, it's not even noticeable!

I love food and love eating, so it's tough to cut back; at one point, I was down 15 pounds, but I gained some back.   Gotta' keep working on it.

Maybe I'm cutting back on the wrong things........



Okay, so I will resolve to eat healthier.

Then there's the whole exercise thing.   I'm really not fond of it.

If blogging were exercise, I'd be reed thin by now!   After all, this is my 19th month on the keyboard; I have posted something nearly every day of that period, except for the few days last spring when I had the ear infection that somehow blossomed into pneumonia.  

Okay, so I'll repeat last year's resolution...to lose weight, I will eat healthier, and add to that I will exercise.....



I know you have to go at it gradually; if you overdo, you'll injure yourself and get discouraged.   I need to go back to the Silver Sneakers Classes.   But then I should do something more.

I have a hard time getting motivated to even leave the house in the winter.  It's nice and cosy and warm inside.......I know I should go walking.   But it's cold outside and the ground is snow-covered.


I'll work on it........We'll see where my weight is one year from today.   (If I lose 10 pounds per year, I should be svelte by the time I'm 83!

Ugh, winter is the most hideous time of year to get motivated to exercise. No one wants to run in this cold mess and everything else involves too much sweating and then getting cold. You need to do some home Zumba, Eva for a little winter exercise. Shake that booty, girl! :) Give Mr. Eva a thrill at the same time.

Resolutions? I seem to carry the same ones over from year to year, feeling like I barely move towards progress BUT I know now that I write waaaaay too many of them (the OCD thing) so this year I think I'm going to walk along side you and resolve to make change in ONE area of my life, rather than in 12 (Nope, not kidding).

What about renting an exercise dvd from the library? Or if you have Netflix, you can stream some as part of your membership! That way you don't have to go out in the snow! :)

hey you made progress that is good...and press forward...exercise is not my friend as well...i get most of mine in hiking and just being out and winter is hard for that...keep at it eva...

At least you know you have much of the world for company. The most important thing I glean from your post is that you've neither given up nor get down on yourself. One's attitude must be in great shape before their body can be, and you've already got that. Happy New Year to you.

Have you noticed how easy the excuses come?? I am not very good at comiting to anything, but eating!!I know they all say " it is never too late"! true....but...!!

Your presentation of your resolutions was awesome. I also seem to make the same resolutions year by year. You must be making progress because you lost 11 pounds. I'd be very happy with that!

You're on the right track! Now, get yourself a rowing machine, or a simple set of stretchable bands and do some pulling and stretches to keep your muscles warm and limber.

Find a partner!
A partner who'll nag you to walk or dance or swim with you when you don't feel like it.

It's a tough road, but the best medicine, by far.

Hi Eva; Such a fun post! Those cartoons and your comments worked well together to create much belly-laughs for me.
Speaking of belly (smooth, huh?) I want to reduce its size considerably in 2011. I hear it's dangerous to have a big belly and that knowledge really ruins my day, especially when I sit in my easy chair and proceed to rest my bowl of ice cream on my belly while channel surfing.
I need some resolutions, too, huh?

Exercise???? I get plenty of exercise on my treadmill. It sits in my loft.

I sweat loads each month when I realize it needs to be dusted. So for five minutes, I work really hard to remove the dust bunnies from the area.

Yep, that treadmill really works me over. LOL

Good job on your weight loss. Most people gain 10 pounds a year.

It's hard for me to find the motivation to exercise in the winter too Eva! All I want to do is snuggle with a hot cup of tea and my cat! And 11 pounds lost is better than 11 gained.
