American Idol Comes to Blogland!

I just want to let my readers know that "Sundays in My Neck of the Woods" will be taking a hiatus for a few weeks.  No, I'm not going anywhere, I'll still be posting.  I have been invited by Chris at Knucklehead to take part in the American Idol of the Blogosphere--Knucklehead's Blog-Off.

Chris has invited the following bloggers to participate:

The Fred Effect

If I Were God

Wrestling With Retirement

Glitter Frog

Musings From the Big Pink

Quirkyloon

Candy's Daily Dandy

Too Many Mornings (Defending Champion)

Each week we will be assigned a topic to write about;  you the readers will be invited to read all the entries and vote for your favorite.  After the first 2 weeks, the blogger with the least number of votes will be eliminated;  after the next 2 weeks, again, the blogger with the least number of votes will be eliminated, and so on, until there is a winner.

Like I said...it's the American Idol of the blogosphere!  Obviously, I would love to win, but to be fair, you really need to read all the entries before you vote on Knucklehead's website.  (there will be a link to take you there, where all entries will be listed, and you can click on them to check them out.)

Last year's champion, Too Many Mornings, is tough competition, as are all the others competing!  I'm shaking in my shoes and hoping I'm not the first one to be dropped!  So, on Sundays for the next few weeks, you are invited to read and vote for your favorites in Knucklehead's Blogoff 2011!

Now, it's time for New Word Wednesday, #5!

Every time I comment on a website where I have to type a word verification to get my comment posted, I can't help but think, "What a waste! What could possibly be a very helpful word is now going to disappear and never be seen again." With all the attention being paid to "going green" in this country, I think it's time for bloggers to go green and recycle the letter combos used in word verification.

I decided a few weeks ago to start a meme called "New Word Wednesday", thus creating a dictionary of new words based on the letter combos that pop up in the word verification process. You may feel free to do the same, or to grab my words and use them. (You know, if you use a new word three times, it's in your vocabulary forever; at least that's what I've heard) Just think, we can learn new words and go green just by recycling/reusing the words that show up at comment time.

Here are today's words:

ectized:  having had gastric bypass surgery or other procedures to reduce oneself from being and endomorrphic body type to an ectomorphic body type,  as in, "From the looks of Linda, she has been ectized since I last saw her!"

gagnap:  a towel provided to medical students who are training to be pathologists, as in, "Mary was grateful for her gagnap the first time she had to witness an autopsy.

groth:  choosing to take the 'goth' look (black lipstick, black clothing, etc.) to such an extreme it becomes gross-looking; as in, "Sally has gone from goth to groth with those ugly black tattoos!"

moomali:  the term given to the partially digested food (cud) chewed by cows; as in, "Many animals such as camels, goats, and sheep chew their cud.  When cows do it, it's called chewing their moomali."

testosi:  exhibiting an excess of testosterone, as in, "John is so testosi, even his muscles have muscles."

Remember now, if you use these new words in a sentence three times, they're in your vocabulary forever!

And don't forget to join in on the Blogoff on Sunday!  I need your votes!

I love what you're doing with word verification. When I lived outside of DC and read the Washington Post, they used to run a weekly contest for made up words and their meanings. It was soooooo funny. I look forward to more of yours, EJ!

No shaking in your boots about this contest! Just being asked to participate is an honor. For real. Good luck!!

I'm ready to vote...finger poised...full of anticipation. You really are such a great blogger Eva. I was hooting with laughter at your made up words...especially as yesterday I tried to do the same thing with the ridiculous combination of letters I was given and thought the word sounded like a Russian soup. Go get 'em tiger!
