Sundays in My Neck of the Woods

One of the newest locations for Buffalo Wild Wings, a national chain of sports pubs, is 85 Western Avenue in South Portland, Maine.  This, the company's first store in Maine, extends their locations to all of the contiguous U. S. states with the exception of Utah.   Although, since they are continuing to expand, there may be one under construction there as I type!

The place is really large with lots of seating choices available.   There are regular tables, booths, and high tables with bar stools, plus a full bar on one side of the dining area.  As with most sports pubs, there are TV screens, some giant and some regular sized, situated all around the dining room.   I would be willing to bet there isn't a spot you could choose that doesn't face two or more screens.  You can watch your favorite games or play trivia games.

We started with a couple of appetizers.  The first was a basket of traditional wings with sweet BBQ sauce.  (There are 14 sauces to pick from, and they are color-coded on the menu by degrees of hotness.)  They were absolutely delicious....finger lickin' good, as the saying goes!

The second appetizer we chose?  Queso fries!  Undoubtedly they are a heart attack waiting to happen, so I wouldn't order them again, but I would recommend trying them at least once.  Crispy French fries topped with chili and a cheese sauce were heavenly.   Why does something sooooo good have to be bad for you?   There's just no fairness in this world!

From there, we took a healthier turn and had salads.  The lettuce was crisp and fresh, s were the purple onion rings perched on top.  In between were chopped tomatoes, shredded carrots, a blend of shredded cheeses, and some crispy croutons.  Though nice and crunchy, the croutons were low on flavor, but they did add a different texture to the vegetables.

I selected the Honey-BBQ, Bacon and Chicken Sandwich.  A large, moist, boneless grilled chicken breast was topped with cheese, a couple of slices of bacon, tomato slices, and shredded lettuce, was topped with BBQ sauce, all perched on a roll.   The roll was rather non-descript.  All that delicious filling cried for a substantive, crispy roll, rather than the bland, crumbly one it was served in.  I left most of the roll, but the chicken was very moist and tasty, and the other ingredients and the pickle wedge were pleasing, too.
Hubby ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich.  This consisted of Hickory-smoked pulled pork tossed in BBQ sauce served on a bun.   I couldn't tell you if the bun was the same as mine.  Hubby didn't complain about it, but I'm the one who loves bread and would have been more likely to notice.  His sandwich was accompanied by a side of coleslaw.

After all that, we had no room left for the New York Cheesecake, Deep-dish Apple Pie, nor the Chocolate Fudge Cake listed on the menu for dessert.  All the prices were reasonable, and with the 2 appetizers, a beer, a soda, and two sandwiches, our check totalled $35, including a 17% tip.

Will I return to Buffalo Wild Wings in the future?  You bet!  There are way too many choices on their extensive menu that I didn't get to sample on this trip.  (I've heard good things about the fried pickles!)
There are salads, wraps, flat bread flips, ribs, and burgers to pick from.  What's a flat bread flip?  I have no idea, so I definitely need to go back and try one!  See you there?

Note:  I was not compensated in any  way for this review.  We paid for our meals and beverages.  The opinions expressed were mine alone.

Don't worry about calories. If food is featured on a blog, it doesn't count! Besides you can always schedule your angiogram in advance next time. Enjoy!

Fried pickles are FANTASTIC!
Now, if you'll excuse me, it's lunchtime and I gotta go wrestle me up some grub (well, not literally "grubs", because they're bugs).

I had fried pickles, for the first time, when I was visiting my mom at Country's BBQ in Columbus, GA. I doubt you'd ever find them on a menu in San Francisco but we devoured them. They were fantastic!

I will never EVER turn down Buffalo Wings.

I was at the first Buffalo Wild Wings (and Weck) not too terribly long after it opened in Columbus. It was a lot different (as I recall) from the restaurants they put up today.

My boys and I all took the Blazin' Wings Challenge a couple of years ago and won shirts. You have to eat X number of ultra-hot wings in Y number of minutes. The trick is to eat them as fast as you can.

We've only ever had chicken wings at Buffalo Wild Wings. Go figure!
