Sundays in My Neck of the Woods

Bruno's Restaurant and Tavern at 33 Allen Avenue in Portland, Maine is a wonderful place to dine.

There is a full bar with an informal atmosphere, and the more elegant Ocean Star Banquet room which can be booked for special occasions.

We started with a crispy fresh salad, consisting of iceberg and romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, purple onions, and grated carrots.  The Ranch dressing tasted homemade and was the perfect topping for the greens and vegetables.

Hubby followed the salad with Crab-Stuffed Haddock.  His haddock fillet was stuffed with a crab and mushroom stuffing and perfectly broiled.

He chose to have the fresh-cut fries as a side dish,, and they were a crispy, golden brown, with the skins still on.  I had to steal a couple, and they were sooo  good!

I have to have something Italian when I eat at an Italian restaurant, so I opted for the "House" Calzone.  It was stuffed with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, ricotta, provolone, mozzarella, and Romano cheese and sauce.  All of that was baked to a lovely shade of golden brown and then sprinkled with Romano and Parmesan cheeses.   It was huge and delicious!

I have a pretty good appetite, but I ended up taking half of it home in the box the waitress so kindly provided.   It made a great lunch the next day.  I would definitely recommend this restaurant, and I thought the prices were reasonable at lunch time...for 2 beers,  2 salads, the stuffed haddock and the calzone, the check came to $35.32 including the tax.

Gah! Why is it almost one in the morning, and I have nothing remotely delicious like that, in my house?!?

The restaurant looks quite classy and the food looks scrumptious!
Calzone is something I've yet to try, that might be my birthday choice this year. The stuffed haddock sounds yummy too.

You and your husband are having wayyyyyyyyy to much fun dining out so as to share it all with us.

EJ, you should see if one of the local papers or magazines wants to carry your reviews. Really.

Mmmmmm. looks good! Wish I thought of a weekly restaurant view thing to give me the excuse of having to go out to eat for the greater good.

The crab stuffed haddock would be my choice too. Wait, the calzone is not to be missed either. Glad they give out doggy bags.
Hope you enjoyed the leftovers.

Although I like my meat to be of the variety "paddock," not haddock, this does look tempting.

I have not had a calzone in ages. That 1/2 of a calzone may be shipped to Honduras, if you please.

Clipped: It was super fresh!

Deb: It's a tough job, but someone has to do it! I force myself.

Dawn: I usually do my post the night before and use "post options" to set it to post by 12:15A. M.

Jen: That calzone was even better than it looked!

Rosaria: Everything was good--including the leftovers!

Nick: Paddock? Does that mean you prefer horsemeat? lol

Sharde: The photos even make me hungry!

That food looks divine! I'll have to ask my friend, who lives nearby, if she's ever been there. What a great way to spend a Sunday!
