Sundays in My Neck of the Woods

This is the view looking out the window next to our table at Buffleheads Restaurant at 122 Hills Beach Road in Biddeford, Maine.  The pink and blue color scheme of the outdoor picnic tables is carried forward inside the dining room.

The walls are a neutral off-white shade with bits of pink and blue as highlights.  Even the table settings (there are 14 or 15 tables) have the pink and blue theme.  The place mats have seashells on them, to remind you that you are in sight of the beach.

The view from all the dining room windows is lovely, especially on a sunny day such as this one was.  In case you were wondering, a bufflehead is a sea-diving duck that has a rather large head.  There are paintings and pictures of the ducks on the walls.
Mr. Eva can never pass up seafood chowder and started of with a steaming cupful.  I have never cared for any kind of chowder or soup that involves warm milk.  This could be the result of growing up on a dairy farm, where after milking the cows, we refrigerated the milk immediately.
I chose to have a smoked turkey sandwich with a side of fries, coleslaw, a crispy pickle, and a tomato slice on some lettuce.  The waitress forgot to ask me for my bread choice (there were several to pick from: white, wheat, rye, French bread roll, bulkie roll, or wrap), but I quickly forgave the omission when I bit into the fresh homemade bread that housed my sandwich fillings.

Lots of smoked turkey slices, crisp bacon, sliced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and cranberry mayo made for a divine sandwich!  (Notice the pink plate!)
Mr. Eva went for the fried haddock served with tartar sauce and cheddar cheese on a bulkie roll.  He also had coleslaw and the crispy pickle.

Both meals were delicious.  This wasn't our first visit, and by no means will be our last.  The restaurant is off the beaten path, and you have to drive through the campus of the University of New England to get there.  I'm sure that it would be missed altogether if you weren't looking for it.

I apologize that I don't have a photo of the outside; I forgot to take one, and when I tried to get one from their website, I was unsuccessful.   I do recommend that you visit their website...there are some beautiful photos to look at.  Click here to see them.

Also, I apologize for my tardiness....I have a winner of the Supercuts $50 gift card.  I should have posted it sooner, but it took a while for them to send me mine, and I wanted to make sure they ideed would deliver the goods before I announced a winner.  Mr. Eva picked the  name out of a hat.  The winner is Unknown Mami!  I need Mami to send me her home address via my email (evag@maine.rr.com) so I can forward it to Supercuts!

Congrats to Mami!

Now, I would love to smell the sea salt in the air, while sitting on that pink and blue picnic table eating a pickle like the one on your plate.

Lovely place.

That's the prettiest restaurant yet. I really, really want to sit there and watch the beach while I eat chips. (fries)
Thank you for telling us what a bufflehead was, I never would have known it was a duck.

What a cute place. I will forward this to my son who now lives in Biddeford, but I can assure you his view is NOTHING like their view! Is this particular restaurant in the Biddeford Pool section maybe?

"Bufflehead" - all these years I thought that was just the politically correct term for "s**t head". God, the things I learn here!

That's not one bit fair...I haven't had a thing to eat yet and now I am starving.

Beautiful view.

Congratulations to the winner.

As usual you have me drooling! Unfortunately, none of that is on the list of foods that I can enjoy until I get this weight off. But it's so nice to visit here on Sundays and read about it and see the pictures...heck, at this point, I can almost smell it!

I am happy that Unknown Mami won the prize. She's been a bit out of sorts lately. And thanks for the beautiful pics of your restaurant finds. I can almost smell the salty ocean nearby.

That's my type of place, relaxed, views of the outdoors, plenty of seating outdoors and simple, appetizing food.

I wish I had an ocean view like that!

The food looks absolutely delicious. Pity I won't get the chance to taste it.

I love chowder. Any kind of chowder. Well, there's probably been some weird chowders concocted that I wouldn't like. But for the most part. And thank you very much because now I'm hungry.

Deb: Yes...the restaurant is in the Biddeford Pool area..It's actually between the University of New England Campus and Biddeford Pool.

Rosaria: I'm sure you would love it.

hocam: yes it is a pity. You really need to come across the pond someday!

I've been so happy all day because I won that gift card. My mom usually cuts my hair , but she is really far away.

It looks like they serve the food on Fiestaware, which I love.
