Forty-nine Years and Counting

How do you feel about high school class reunions?  A group in my graduating class love them, and have made a point of getting together every year for the past 4 years, after having reunions every 5 years before that.

When the beloved classmate who did the bulk of the planning for our 45th reunion passed away a few days before the event, and we lost another within weeks after that get together, we decided to make the reunion an annual event.  We are fortunate to have a core group who operate as the planning committee and do the work of contacting people, collecting ticket money, and preparing wonderful feasts, and a couple who have been willing to offer their beautiful home as a gathering place.
Below are some candid shots I took at the 49th reunion of Winslow High School class of 1963!

                    Here's looking at you!

This party was on August 4th; on August 5th we learned we've lost another dear member of our class.  All I can say is live every day as though it were your last; leave nothing unsaid that you want to say, and nothing undone that you want to do--because you never know which day WILL be your last.   Love you all, my friends from the class of 1963!

Do you go to your high school or college reunions?

I've never been to a reunion of any kind. I was our senior class president in high school and I hear they're looking for me.

I've never been to a reunion, we don't really go in for that sort of thing out here in Aus. There are more of them happening now than in the past though. I see notices in the Sunday papers announcing the reunion of...(whatever).
I was disappointed to be left out of a reunion a few years ago. When the factory I worked in closed down, they planned a reunion for the following year and continued the tradition for about 10 years. I didn't even know about it until the fourth year when someone from the factory casually mentioned that he never sees me there. I felt that since I hadn't been told about it, they didn't want me there. My feelings were very hurt, because I thought we'd all been workplace friends. So I continued to not go, even though I do miss some of those "friends".

No,I haven't attended a class reunion since our 25th!! They meet every 5 years. I might go to the 50th (how the heck did I get so old) We'll see. We had a class of nearly 400 people, so that close bond isn't there.

I've never gone to my high school reunions. Well, I went to my 5th. But, I stopped going after that when one of the people there couldn't even remember who I was (even though we used to take our girlfriends to the airport parking lot to...uh...watch airplanes taking off. That's my story and I'm sticking with it). I think (hope) he was stoned.
I figured no sense going to hang out with people I don't hang out with on a regular basis. But, that's just me. I think what you're doing sounds like fun, though (meeting every year).

I am so sorry to hear about all the losses, but I'm really impressed that you all do such a great job of getting together.

Nice pictures, Eva! I have gone to my 5th, 10th and 20th. I see the people I like though, so after I go there and see who else is divorced or looks really old I've about had enough.

I think it's great that your class does this. I only went to my first high school reunion. After that, I lost interest. I do stay in touch with a few friends, though...
