Friday--Fact or Fiction?

I'm not sure if this is true, but it came to me on email and I thought it was interesting!

WHEN NASA FIRST STARTED SENDING UP ASTRONAUTS, THEY QUICKLY DISCOVERED THAT BALL-POINT PENS WOULD NOT WORK IN ZERO GRAVITY.  TO COMBAT THIS PROBLEM, NASA SCIENTISTS SPENT A DECADE AND $12 BILLION DEVELOPING A PEN THAT WRITES IN ZERO GRAVITY, UPSIDE DOWN, ON ALMOST ANY SURFACE INCLUDING GLASS AND AT TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM BELOW FREEZING TO OVER
300 C.

THE RUSSIANS USED A PENCIL.

ENJOY PAYING YOUR TAXES, THEY’RE DUE AGAIN!

Those Russians were pretty smart. I suppose they also sent up a pencil sharpener.

As they say, 'no smoke without fire'. I believe the Waterman pens were the commercial product that arose from this venture. We can also thank the space program for non-stick cookware, Tang and in increased understanding of osteoporosis.

One of those three is a good thing.

Well, we tend to overthink sometime, and on purpose too!

I've heard this before and it seems hard to believe, as do many things that turn out to be true.

So what pen did they develop? All I can think is the Sharpie... dang, now I have to go search it. ~ Paula

Oh yeah!? But the smarty-pants Russians never landed on the moon while we have a whole fleet of spacecraft and can...oh, what's that? We DON'T have any more spacecraft while the Russians still do? With pencils?
Crap.

I had a workmate once that quit when the computers were down for a week. She was bored and had nothing to do. I guess dealing the actual cards by hand to play Solitair was too much for her.

$12M to develop a pen. That's got to be a hell of a pen, but where do you find he refills when the ink runs out?

Yep, it's true, I supposed we could have used a pencil too, but that wouldn't be cool now, would it? :)
